Esteemed for his military prowess, Macbeth is the King's most trusted warrior until he is wooed by the murmurs and prophecies of witches into a bloody struggle for the throne. Drunk with ambition, his quest for glory leads to war, murder and destruction and propels Macbeth and his wife on a dizzying spiral to paranoia and madness. In this classic story of deceit, Macbeth's fall from grace powerfully explores the good and evil inherent in everyone.
The story of Macbeth, written in the early 1600's, is considered to be Shakespeare's shortest and yet most spellbinding tragedy. The popularity of Macbeth has continued for centuries, becoming the inspiration for film, television, novels and operas. The themes and characters are often compared to contemporary corruption and turmoil, making Macbeth one of the most relevant pieces of literature still today.

Founded in 1966, The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis is a fully professional theatrical operation belonging to the League of Resident Theatres, The League of St. Louis Theatres and is a constituent member of Theatre Communications Group, Inc., the national service organization for the not-for-profit professional theatre.
