Macbeth Continues The Rep's Mainstage Season, Closes 3/6

Macbeth_Continues_The_Reps_Mainstage_Season_20010101

The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis (The Rep) presents Macbeth by William Shakespeare. This poetic and potent drama will be performed on the Browning Mainstage of the Loretto-Hilton Center for the Performing Arts, 130 Edgar Road (on the campus of Webster University), Webster Groves, thru March 6, 2011.

Ticket prices start at just $15 (previews) and $18.50 (regular performances). To purchase, visit The Rep Box Office, located inside the Loretto-Hilton Center, charge by phone by calling (314) 968-4925, or visit The Rep's Online Box Office at http://www.repstl.org.

Major sponsorship for this production is provided by Brown Shoe, with additional support from The Rep's Leading Ladies.

The Rep's production of Macbeth is a part of Shakespeare for a New Generation, a national program of the National Endowment for the Arts in cooperation with Arts Midwest.

Sorcery, betrayal and intrigue abound in Shakespeare's most chilling and enduring tragedy. Esteemed for his military prowess, Macbeth is the King's most trusted warrior until he is wooed by the murmurs and prophecies of witches into a bloody struggle for the throne. Drunk with ambition, his quest for glory leads to war, murder and destruction and propels Macbeth and his wife on a dizzying spiral to paranoia and madness. In this classic story of deceit, Macbeth's fall from grace powerfully explores the good and evil inherent in everyone.

The story of Macbeth, written in the early 1600's, is considered to be Shakespeare's shortest and yet most spellbinding tragedy. The popularity of Macbeth has continued for centuries, becoming the inspiration for film, television, novels and operas. The themes and characters are often compared to contemporary corruption and turmoil, making Macbeth one of the most relevant pieces of literature still today.

The cast of Macbeth at The Rep is Kyle Acheson as Fleance, Nancy Bell as Lady Macduff/Angus, Chris Bolan as Lennox, Hillary Brainerd as Ensemble, Jason Cannon as Banquo/Caithness (last seen in Saint Joan), Mike Curtin as young Siward/Soldier, Alexander M. Donovan as Macduff child, Greg Fink as Donalbain (last seen in Saint Joan), Shanara Gabrielle as Witch/Murderer/Servant/Gentlewoman, Jake Golliher as Ensemble, Christopher Hickey as Ross, David Graham Jones as Witch/Poter/Seyton, Scott Joy as Ensemble, Michael Keyloun as Witch/Murderer/Servant/Doctor (last seen in The 39 Steps), Maria Knasel as Macduff child, Scears Lee IV as Ensemble, McKenna Liesman as Ensemble, Nathaniel McIntyre as Captain/Siward/Earl of Northumberland, Ben Nordstrom as Malcolm (last seen in Next Fall), Colton Pometta as Ensemble, Drew Redington as Macduff child (last seen in A Christmas Story), Michael James Reed as Macduff, Julia Schweizer (last seen in A Christmas Story) as Macduff child, Timothy D. Stickney as Macbeth, Elizabeth Teeter as Macduff child, Jerry Vogel as Duncan, King of Scotland/Menteith (last seen in The Diary of Anne Frank) and Caris Vujcec as Lady Macbeth.

The Rep's production of Macbeth is directed by Paul Mason Barnes (Amadeus).

The creative staff also includes Michael Ganio, set designer; Dorothy Marshall Englis, costume designer; Kenton Yeager, lighting designer; Rusty Wandall, sound designer; Brian Peters and Shaun Sheley, fight directors; Glenn Dunn, stage manager; and Shannon B. Sturgis, assistant stage manager.

For more information about The Rep's production of Macbeth including a guide introducing the characters, plot and background on the play; photos related to the production; and more, visit The Rep's comprehensive public website at http://www.repstl.org.

Founded in 1966, The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis is a fully professional theatrical operation belonging to the League of Resident Theatres, The League of St. Louis Theatres and is a constituent member of Theatre Communications Group, Inc., the national service organization for the not-for-profit professional theatre. It operates independently of, but under a mutually beneficial agreement with, Webster University. The Rep operates under an agreement between the League of Resident Theatres and Actors' Equity Association, the Union of Professional Actors and Stage Managers in the United States. The Rep hires directors and choreographers who are members of the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers and stagehands who are members of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees. Financial assistance for this theatre has been provided by the Arts and Education Council of Greater St. Louis; the St. Louis Regional Arts Commission and the Missouri Arts Council, a state agency. This project is supported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency, which believes that a great nation deserves great art. The Rep is also grateful for support by more than 1,100 generous individuals, families, corporations and foundations throughout the communities we serve. Thank you.
